Get in the Zen Zone with a Float Tank

A float tank or flotation tank is the ultimate place to reconnect with yourself in a meditative experience that rejuvenates your mind, body and spirit. As you lay floating in extremely buoyant water – similar to the experience of swimming in the Dead Sea, you can focus and meditate in complete darkness or low lighting. The absence of outside stimuli enables you to reach a deep meditative state where you feel at one with the universe.

Float tanks were first invented in 1954 by John Lilly, a neuroscientist and psychologist. He wanted a way to explore what would happen if the brain were deprived of all outside stimulation and senses. Lilly’s first float tank required the use of a diving mask and was an upright chamber with zero comfort but by the 1970s, float tanks had evolved to resemble the modern tanks that we see today.

Today technology has developed float tanks into comfortable luxurious spaces that enable the user to float in water, free from the constraints of ordinary life and distractions in perfect peace and darkness.

So what is a float tank?

A float tank is an enclosed tank with a lid. The water is filled with around 1000 litres of water to enable the user to float in comfort and there is plenty of space above the water line so that you can breathe in comfort and sit up if you require.

Many people leave the lid open on their first sessions as initially the deprivation experience can feel disturbing but as you become accustomed to the sensation of floating, you will find you lose this fear. Because the interior of the float tank is so roomy and because it is easy to open the tank from inside, even people who suffer from claustrophobia can get past this fear and benefit from this ultimate experience.

To make the water buoyant so that you can be fully supported without moving, Epsom salts are added. These are crucial to the float experience plus have additional health benefits to your physical health as well as your mental wellbeing.

Why are Epsom Salts so good for health?

Epsom salts are natural salts that get their name from the town in England where they were first discovered. They are rich in magnesium, the most abundant mineral in the human body and are necessary for all aspects of good health including healthy muscles. Because we obtain magnesium from food, many people in the US are magnesium deficient thanks to modern farming methods that deplete natural minerals.

As you use the float tank, your body absorbs magnesium, helping lymphatic drainage, healthy skeletal muscle function and your organs which all require magnesium to work efficiently.

Epsom salts also contain sulfur and oxygen which are associated with anti aging so you will find that regular immersion helps you look and feel better as you age.

Epsom salts are not the same as Dead Sea salts which have a different molecular structure but they do create buoyancy in water in the same way. They are perfect for use in a float tank
